In volleyball we always will preach
"touches" during the off-season. Ways to improve the number of
touches that a player gets on the ball is to participate in club
volleyball or attend camps during the summer months.
Clubs provide a
great opportunity for players to improve their skills from one season
to the next. While some clubs are higher priced, there are clubs out
there in the more modest price range. These clubs are just as good
for learning more about volleyball and they limit the time and money
commitment required.
Camps also provide a
great way to immerse a player in volleyball for a short period of
time. These can be done in a day-to-day setting as well as a
week-long get-away. Different camps stress different skills. There
are also camps that are a great overview for the less experienced
player. Camps are available at most major colleges and some high
schools and volleyball clubs offer them as well.
While both of these
offer great opportunity to get more "touches" it comes down to the
drive and attitude of the players. Go down whatever avenue you choose
with an open mind and the intent to learn something more about the
great game of volleyball. As always, if you don't find what you're
looking for here, please contact me and I will try to put you in touch
with the right person to help improve your skills.
